Bringing 3d printed curriculum to public education.

A short summary of your projects

In a world where technology is constantly expanding and changing, I want my students to have every opportunity to experience these changes first hand. I am crowdfunding in order to purchase a 3d printer and filament for my k-6 Computer Classroom. Many of my students are interested in graphic design and 3d models, but it is very difficult to understand these concepts when you cannot see the finished project in front of you. This is exactly what the 3d printer would be used for in my classroom. Students would see their virtual models come to life!

Who are you?

My name is Kaitlyn, and I am currently a computer instructor in a school with grades kindergarten through 6th. I am a graduate of CSU Fullerton, and will be finishing my Master's Program in Educational Technology at this institution in December of 2015.

Your story

It is a universal known that teaching is not the highest paid occupation, and applying for grants can be next to impossible. I want to offer my students the opportunity to experience a piece of technology that many children their age will never see in action. The possibilities with 3d printing are limitless, from a small personal item, to a complete interactive model of the human heart, students would have the opportunity to take the ideas and drawings they have and develop a feasible object.

Where will the money go?

The minimum amount will cover the entire cost of a Makerbot Replicator Mini Essentials kit. This would be a perfect starter pack for my classroom.

If the project reaches its target goal, the extra funding will go towards buying more filament for the 3d printer.

With increased funding, I will be able to purchase more than one 3d printer so that student's will have more accessibility to the equipment.

Daily updates will be given so that donors will have an idea for how well the project is doing.

Breakdown of Costs:

Makerbot Replicator Mini Essential kit: includes 3d printer, 10 pack of filament, build plate tape, and a 1 year warranty.

-$1869.99

Extra Filament:

-$18.00 a spool

Rewards

Individuals who back $250 or more will get a personal 3d printed object and a handwritten/drawn note from the student who created it!
