Raising support for my social work degree tuition fees. Student finance won't support me - will you?

A short summary of your projects

Hi, I'm Naana and I have a place to study a degree in Social Work at Southampton Solent University, starting in October 2015.  

I'm raising a minimum of £10,000 (first year fees) to cover the tuition fees for which I'm not eligible to claim as a loan from Student Finance, despite living in England for the past 8 years.

Who are you?

I'm a 38 year old mother of three daughters with a heart for social work.

I've gathered life experience through work in television, journalism, business and parenting and now wish to use these skills to help advocate for others in the community.

Your story


I've just completed a college course in Health and Social care and have been accepted onto a university course at Southampton Solent to study for a degree in Social Work.

However, for this to become a reality, I require your kind generosity in contributing to my tuition fees.

With my own personal experience of having a social worker during a time of crisis for my children and I after domestic violence, I know first hand the opportunity a social worker has to impact, empower and protect an individual, a family and a community.

It is my desire to give back to society in turn for the way in which I have already been helped.

My children are my loudest cheerleaders and it is my hope that I can continue to be a role model to my girls so that they can also be inspired to work hard and achieve their dreams.

Your donations will be invaluable in helping a family who have had everything taken away from them build a better future.

I realise I'm asking a lot from people I have no way of truly repaying, however I'm swallowing my pride and putting this out there with hope and prayer that it'll be part of my story of survival and perseverance.

I would be eternally grateful for any support that you might wish to invest in me. 

I can only promise that I will work with sheer determination during my social work degree.

Where will the money go?

Due to the current status of my visa, the university have classed me as an international student and charged me higher fees accordingly.

The minimum target will help me pay tuition fees for one year, while the full target will cover the entire degree.

No money raised will be spent on our family's living costs. I will work part-time to make ends meet.
