Who are WE?

Southampton University Formula Student Team (SUFST) is a group of over 100 enthusiastic students, sourced from a variety of course backgrounds, determined to design and build a single seater, open cockpit race car in order to compete in IMechE Formula Student UK at Silverstone in July.

The year is 2012. The location, scenic Southampton. A group of ambitious and determined students fueled by engine oil flowing through their veins come together to form SUFST, with the sole aim of competing in Formula Student UK. The task? Design and build a car ready to compete in just nine months. Getting a degree would be nice too. 

In that year, we finished 82nd and competed in every event at Silverstone. Rinse and repeat, with the lessons of the preceding year fresh in our minds, we continued to the 2013 season - progressing to finishing 66th out of the 178 teams that applied to compete, and placing in the top 30 UK teams. It's now our 3rd year in the competition and we aim to continue our steep upwards progress by breaking into the top 30 - a lofty aim for a team with only 3 years of competition experience, but one that we believe we can achieve.

Where will the money go?

From now until July each of us will be hard at work, making sure our car is the best that we can design and build. A proportion of the donations that we receive will be put towards our car, helping us to reach that aim. Additionally, the support we receive through this project will also help to pay for the costs to attend the competition itself. Each of us want to have a hand in building this car and we all want to be there to see it cross the finish line!
