A self-sustainable solar powered art installation in rural Uganda

The Art-tree Foundation

For the past five years we have been working in Uganda, and established a non-profit organisation: The Art-tree Foundation C.I.C.

Alongside our work with the organisation, we are examining social structures within communities in an artistic context.

Our project

Uganda is a country which has constantly suffered rolling blackouts as a result of financial agreements and the instability of western funding. We hope to make a creative piece which responds to this issue, incorporating sustainable light within a rural community outside the capital of Kampala.

Our aim is to travel to Uganda at Easter in the hope of creating of self-sustaining solar powered structure, both as a continual light source for the community, and as an installed art sculpture.

Funding

However, we need your help. We need to finance the building of the structure. We will be using local builders and engineers, and holding an event for the local community.

To create this structure, we need £500 to finance three solar panels for the roof of the structure, the LED lighting within the buliding, and the wooden frame itself.

Alongside the installation, a film is being made about the process, and the current power situation in Uganda.

Any donation is welcome, but if you’re not able to financially assist, please click the 'I want to help button' and share our project.

Thank you!
