My Project
Hello, my name is Carla Burkitt and I am a current international fighter for the England Karate Team. I have been representing England and Great Britain for the last 5 years consistently attending European and World Championships. My track record includes; British Champion, English Champion, European Silver Medal, European Bronze medal, Commonwealth Bronze Medal to name but a few.
I am now on the road to the Senior World Karate Championships to be held in Bremen, Germany in November. I am an integral part of the squad competing not only as an individual representative for many years but playing a key part of the Ladies Team. This championships is so important to myself and my team as it is the highest level of competition and have put in countless hours of training, travelling up and down the country to prepare as a team. Representing your country is the greatest honour and I take great responsibility every time I wear my England Tracksuit and feel a duty to my country to prepare the best way I can.
The Million Dollar Question
As karate is not currently in the Olympics (we have been shortlisted many times over the last few years but have narrowly missed out) we are all self funded athletes. The strain of funding these, as with many other championships is becoming increasingly difficult. Getting to an event like this is never cheap, we need to pay for training and attending lead up events to prepare. This is before we have paid for our flights, hotel and essential kit we need for the championships it self.
Next year Karate will be a part of the first ever European Olympic Games held in Baku. My aim is to increase my world ranking by attending the World Championships and European Championships next year and qualify for these high profile games. By donating, big or small, you can help to bring me one step closer to my dream in competing on the World stage once again.
