The Painter John Golding and 20th Century Art History

We are raising funds to support a conference whose working title is: ‘The Painter John Golding and 20th Century Art History’. It is scheduled for the 4th and 5th December 2015 at the Courtauld Institute of Art. We require financial support to fund the travel for speakers coming from New York, Scotland, and other parts of the UK, as well as for the completion of a 40-minute documentary by award-winning filmmaker Bruno Wollheim, which we hope to premiere at the conference. Please follow the link provided to preview a short taster in anticipation of the film being made.

The Keynote address will be given by John Elderfield, Chief Curator Emeritus of Painting and Sculpture at MoMA, and amongst the speakers will be John’s ex students Dawn Ades, Elizabeth Cowling, Chris Green, John Milner, and Sarah Wilson; and from the younger generation will be Neil Cox, Charlie Miller, Micheal White, and Trevor Stark (Leonard A. Lauder Fellow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art). Amongst the artists who have accepted our invitation to come and speak about John as a painter are Richard Deacon and Philip King, as well as two students who were with John at the Royal College of Art when he taught there: Jim Mooney and Dillwyn Smith.

We have set the deadline for funding completion for Sunday, 1st November 2015, which would give us enough time to make all the necessary arrangements. The first £1500 raised will go towards the logistics and production of the conference itself. Any sum above £1500 will go towards the completion of Wollheim’s film, which still requires a minimum of £5000 worth of editing and sound work to reach a high enough quality for our proposed private screening.

This is an unparalleled chance to celebrate John, please help us make an event that does him justice.
