The Oxford University Ice Hockey Club (OUIHC) Women’s Blues is hosting the 31st annual Varsity Match against the Cambridge Women’s Blues on Sunday 9th March 2014 at the Oxford Ice Rink. The Women’s Blues’ Varsity Match is at 4pm, and the Men’s Teams (Oxford Vikings vs. Cambridge Eskimos) will be playing on the same day at 7:30pm. We expect to draw a crowd of 500 fans between the two games and are confident of bringing the trophy back to Oxford year following our 15-6 winning scoreline in the challenge match this year. Spirits are high and now all we need is your support to make this year's Varsity match one to remember.
The Oxford University Ice Hockey Club (OUIHC)
The OUIHC was established in 1885 and is the world’s second oldest ice hockey club. The Women’s Blues, a team within the OUIHC, was founded in 1981 and provides a unique opportunity for women in sport who come from around the world. This year, there are 20 women studying at Oxford University or Oxford Brookes University on the roster. The team plays regular games in the British Universities Ice Hockey Association (BUIHA) Non-Checking Division 1 South and continues the tradition of challenging the Cambridge Women’s Light Blues in the Annual Varsity Match.
Sponsorship
We are looking for monetary support to cover the costs of renting the ice for the Varsity Match.
We are also looking for sponsorship in kind: a Varsity Match tradition is to host the Cambridge Women’s team for a buffet-style meal after the match, and we would greatly appreciate donations of food.
