H.E.R.D. - Horses Empowering Riders with Disabilities.

What we need to do

We are hoping to raise £2800 towards installing a decking platform to enable riders with disabilities to have somewhere safe to join in with the equine assisted learning that we are hoping to provide at the centre.  This will be the first of many projects that we need to fund but will provide a huge benefit in being able to provide the services to those with disabilities. Without it we wont be able to progress with the group.

who are we?

'We' are a small equestrian centre based in Hampshire.  We provide tailored lessons and fun equestrian experiences to all but wish to enable the less able bodied riders to become part of our H.E.R.D :-)

whats our story

We are a very small equestrian centre who pride ourselves in being able to offer a more individual service in a quieter, calmer environment. The teaching can be very focused on the individual and their relationship with their horse or pony.

Having worked in the disabled riding sector before and seeing first hand the enjoyment and confidence gained through being with the horses, H.E.R.D. (Horses Empowering Riders with Disabilities) has been one of the major drivers for starting up the centre. Having the ability to provide access to the horses and ponies for those with disabilities or other conditions and to offer equine assisted learning is something that we are passionate about.

Being around horses is enormously beneficial for people with all sorts of disabilities. If they are able to ride, physical exercise improves core strength, balance and coordination. It also encourages an irresistible motivation to communicate and engage, providing a huge boost to confidence and self-esteem.  In addition, E.A.L. is a learner-centred approach, delivering many aspects of the curriculum through the topic of the horse. Subjects/topics traditionally taught in a school environment, can be equally, if not more successfully taught as part of an outdoor, horse-based approach. Learners may have social, emotional or behavioral difficulties and find it hard to access /integrate well in traditional school settings. Working with and around the horses breaks down the structured environment and enables learning through 'doing'.

how will your support help?

If we can hit our minimum target it will enable us to purchase the materials required for the project. If we hit the full target we will be able to employ someone to build it for us!  H.E.R.D. cant really start until we have this safe place for attendees. If we were to raise more than the original full target we would be able to put the additional funds towards what will be out next project, a small wooden staff/classroom - which would be amazing!

We will create a twitter account and will post regular updates on there about our progress.

what can we offer you?

We have some fab rewards to offer to thank everyone who donates, whatever the amount you might give :-)

Find us on twitter - eventually

We will be creating a twitter account shortly so you can follow our progress on there!
