Wrapping up

After what feels like endless months of cold and wet, the sun was finally out today and it was the perfect occasion to get some of the crowdfunding team back together for a picture with the newly installed kit.

The public stands and pumps have been installed on 2 locations, one on Bolderwoord campus and the second on Highfield Campus near the big bike shed between building 32 and Burgess road.

Coming up

We'll be in touch with those of you that are yet to claim their tutorial to the bike stand reward, please watch your emails!

With the sunny days up ahead, we're looking forward to lots of riding in the coming Spring and Summer months.

Our annual alumni ride is taking place on Sunday 30th April this year, and we would be delighted if you could join us for a grand day out of cycling, exploring some of the club's classic routes and experiencing some of the finest cafes and pub stops in Hampshire. Head over to our Facebook event for the latest information

THank you all

A picture says a thousands words (and 48 names!), so we leave you with the custom stickers that were made up as one of the rewards for the project. Thanks again for all the support, we couldn't have done it without you!

MEC101 - How to use the bike maintenance stands

Last week, Anna and Matt went to check out the bike maintenance equipment that is already installed down at the National Oceanographic Centre, with the intention to give everyone a bit of an idea about what you can do with the equipment. We've put together 3 short clips for you to show you how you can mount your bike and use some of the useful tools that will be at your disposal.

MEC101.1 - How to mount your bike on the maintenance stand.

MEC101.2 - Loose brakes? Not a problem with the tools at the stand!

MEC101.3 - Changing a tyre in under 21 seconds

Head over to our Vine channel for more videos on how to use the maintenance stand and pump!

Funding update

Last week was a busy week in donations with £697 of personal donations pledged, bringing us to 78% of our target £4000. That's £1495 of personal donations in addition to the grant we received from the council. That's amazing! Thank you so much for your support!

We want to take the opportunity to extend a BIG THANK YOU to Jon New who was made the largest personal donation yet. His hugely generous donation of £500 will earn him the highest reward available, which includes a full bike service at Ride Ride and much much more, worth £100!

Jon is a member of SURC Alumni, class of 2015. He was a longstanding committee member with particular flair in the Health & Saftey and Cakes position. He is also our much loved choir master on the famous Christmas ride. Here he is at the top of Col du Joly during the club's 2013 trip to the Alps.

News from the club

It's been a busy start to this new academic year and we want to tell you about some of the exciting stuff that has been happening in the club. We also have a handful of events that you may be interested to put into your busy diaries, so please read on.

Sportivate Round 3

For the third year in a row, SURC has been successful in receiving funding from Sport England to run a Sportivate scheme to introduce people new to cycling to all the activities that the club has to offer: cycle skill sessions with coaches, spinning, rollers, track cycling and of course club rides!

Racing Success

The club was representing the University again at this year's British Cycling Track Nationals, where our men's squad was racing in the Team Pursuit event. Here are Charlie, Tj, Scott and Rhys at the start gates. (Credit to Kieran Harris for the shot)

Closer to home, we have just had a very successful weekend of racing at Glenn Longland's "Classic Downton 2 Day", where SURC alumni George Crammond did the club proud with some superb form.

Tomorrow will be the SURC hill climb on Baybridge Lane. If you're still Hampshire based, do come and test your legs against the club's finest racers!

Coming up soon

On the weekend of 24-25th October, the club is running its first ever club trip to the Peaks. This coincides with the BUCS Hill Climb where we hope to have a strong team of 15 racers! If you fancy a weekend of hills, supporting our racers and some good chat, please contact surc@soton.ac.uk to reserve a space.

Save the date: Saturday 5th December

Saturday 5th December will be the annual SURC Christmas Ride! We hope to see as many of you there as possible for another great event! More info in due course.

Crowdfunding news

We hope that you see the latest video in our most recent update (if not, here's the link again!) We're halfway towards the £4000 already, but if we don't get to £4000 then the project will not become a reality. Please help us achieve this by donating and spreading the word using the link below! Remember that there are gifts for donations.

Cycling regards,

Matt and Anna from your SURC crowdfunding team
